The Motor Shaft is the only part of the HDD that can rust, isn't it?

The Motherboard has room for 4 1GB DDR 400 RAM sticks.
The pc came with two 512 MB sticks and I added two 1GB sticks to
total 3GB.

My understanding is a 32-bit OS can address 3.8GB MAX.

Do You think it would be worth it for me to pull the two sticks that
HP placed in their computer and place two 1GB sticks in those slots?

Another idea I'd like to learn about is that I've read that a AMD
4800+ CPU could be put in the 3800+ slot in this pc.
Would I have to change the Clock Crystal if I did that?

I haven't checked, but I'd guess the price for 1GB DDR 400 RAM sticks
and a AMD 4800+ CPU (because they are "old technology") wouldn't hurt
my wallet much.

I send Crash Reports to Mozilla every time one pops up on the screen
for Firefox or Thunderbird, and usually type some comments before I
click the Button.

I usually see the Crash Reporter on the Monitor when I come back in the
room after being away for awhile.
Some times they appear while I'm using the pc.

I Click on Help - About to see if either of those programs have Updates.

I try to be safe with my out of date XP pc.

ASKWOODY had a list of KB's for updating XP in a article a month or so ago.
I hadn't applied any of them.

The thing runs bad enough now (slow), no telling what those KB's might do
after they get put added.
I'd be sure to make a Back Up before adding any of them so I could go
back to how the computer was before doing that.

The spring and button are one piece of plastic.

The 'spring' portion is a flat wavy pattern that is about one inch wide
and about one and a half inch long on each side of the Power button.
