I've done the same, to a .jpeg file, initially.  Then, filled them out with
PaintShop Pro.  A bit tedious but at least the reciever doesn't have to
decipher my handwriting.  With my old Canon MX320 I can then fax them back
as well.

Oh, and the printer has been 'out of ink' for over three years.  :)
