Hi Gary, this won't help with the problems you're experiencing with win/os2 +
internet, but it's just my thoughts...
After a couple of years fighting it, I finally condeded defeat, and installed
Windows 95 (+ os/2 + Linux) in a boot manager setup. I prefer to use os/2 to
gather my email, as I think that MR/2 ice is better than Windows email apps,
but that's about the only exception. All the really good stuff is written for
Windows, including web browsers, irc, news, ftp.
Netscape for os/2, for instance... It's at 2.02, although you can use the -3
switch on the command line. Netscape 4.0 pre-releases are out now, very
impressive; hell, there's even a Linux version 4.0 out now, identical to the
Windows version, but nothing for os/2.
I had the same problems with RealAudio at one time, trying to make it work
with Netscape for os/2, so why do I have to do a day's worth of fighting and
tweaking, when I can just load up a windows browser, and the thing works?
Okay, so it crashes from time to time. :)
Much as I hate to admit it, the web is designed for the masses. All of us
here use os/2, and we like to think of ourselves as 'power users', but
there's just too few of us. It's kind of like when I was a kid... I wouldn't
consider buying a car with an automatic transmission, those were for pussies.
Now, I don't care about the challenge, I just like to drive with one arm
rested out the window. *G*
Take care,
Dana
