No; hpfs *RESISTS* fragmentation but does not prevent it or
automatically correct it. If hpfs knows the size of a file (as
it can when you copy from one location to another) it will try to
store the file contiguously. Files that are frequently modified
are still subject to fragmentation, though. The simplest way to
defragment individual files on an hpfs partition is to copy them
to another location and then back again. In fact, this is how
many of the freeware hpfs defrag utilities work.
