I believe a well noted Japanese Astrophysicist currently working at
Boston University or somesuch has written a book called Hyperspace
and has many theories that would explain many more creative and 
non-conventional ways of intergalactic travel.  I think the thing about
most aliens with space travel capability is that they have probably
been doing this a lot longer than us, over 40 years that is, and even
though they are still subject to that constant laws of the universe
as everything else is, they simply grasp them much better than we do
and understand aspects we currently don't..like take the leap between
Issac Newton and Albert Einstein..and then maybe imagine all the leaps
from Aristotle to Stephen Hawking in some cases.
