-> Well... on the topic of ohms... I have a set of DCM speakers (please stop
-> laughing :) ),
DCM makes some great speakers (even if my opinion is slightly skewed being in
their home town ), nothing to laugh at!
-> hooked up to a JVC reciever (I said stop laughing! ;) )...
OK, maybe a mild smirk :-)
-> reciever has one of those nice warning tags saying not to go below 8 ohms;
-> however, the speakers are 6 ohms (I didn't know this at the time when I
-> bought them). Will this hurt anything, besides shortening the life of my
-> reciever a bit? It seems to run slightly warmer, though I usually keep it
As long as you keep your volume/bass at reasonable levels you are ok. The
DCM's
impeadance (like all speakers) varies across the Fz spectrum; 6 ohms is the
average/nominal impeadance. It can be lower or higher depending on what
frequency is being tested. Your JVC has a "modest" power supply so for both
wattage rating and overall stability (thermal for one, as you have observed),
they recommend an 8 ohm load. Just use common sense and all will be well.
