Got a question maybe someone that is an OMC Sterndrive mechanic could
tell me with some certainty?
1985 OMC 3.8L V6 (229 chev, not 231 buick)
The distributer uses an long/short or large/small points cam.. Of the
alternating big and small lobes, which one is to be based for the #1
cylinder? In other words, how is the points cam to be referenced when
the distributer is being re-installed? Since the boat is a twin engine I
just matched the other engines setup etc, but it has always bothered me
that my OMC shop manual (not an actuall OMC) doesn't elude to this quirk
of a distributer..
I assume this is probably known then as an "odd fire" engine due to the
dist cam would cause a timing seperation of about 50/70 degrees as
apposed to 60 degrees all around?
