SD>>> I am going to sound very naieve by saying this, but I still

BK>> Substitute the word "blacks" for "Jews"
and you have the same
BK>> thing.
RC> Except that Jewish hatred as Sean describes are done by
RC> people much like yourself, I am not saying you, just people
RC> like you.
No, true Jewish hatred comes pretty much exclusively from the
right, from people who hate Catholics almost as much as they
hate Jews and Blacks.
SD>>> "African-Americans" (which have about as much African in
BK>> And this diatribe on your part has zero justification in a
BK>> discussion of the above.
BK>> BTW, if you have as much african in you as the average African
BK>> American, then you are African American. Or does the average
BK>> black person look European to you?
RC> The term African American, is just a attempt to be
RC> politically correct by using a feel good term.
Is the term, "Irish American" Politically correct? How about
"Polish American"? Or "Greek American"? Or
"German American"?
Come to Toledo this summer and go to the festivals, and tell the
German Americans that is politically correct. Tell the Irish
Americans or the Greek Americans. You already missed the Polish
American festival. I may be working at the Irish American
festival, depending on my schedual on my job. I'll probably
check your ID as you come in, for age for alcohol purchases. And
take tickets.
African American is on the level of Irish American. I use it
mostly to distinguish between Black African Americans and Black
Indian Americans. And I use Native American to distinguish
between Asian Indian Americans and American Indians.
RC> The majority of blacks in the country are as far removed
RC> from Africa as most whites are from Europe, yet we dont
RC> hear the term European American, do we?
Yes, we do. We also hear Irish American and Italian American
etc. You are running a red herring across the discussion.
I do not know any black people who object to black as the
descriptive term. African American is used as a more formal
term, and, as I said above, to distinguish between different
black peoples.
RC> More to the point, the term African American, is used to
RC> avoid using terms such as but not limited to:
RC> black(s)
RC> Colored
It's not used to avoid using black around here. Maybe you live
in a place that is too "politically correct". As to colored,
that applies to everyone who is not white. So it is meaningless
by itself.
