It's the gausian curve of life, the farther you move the line over, the more
people show up under the curve.
Criminologists and sociologists have shown that society can only withstand
about 2% of people over the edge before it get's really noticeable. This is
based on crime statistics and fundamental honesty between "high" and "low"
crime areas. Fundamental honesty in a low crime area is about 98%, but only
95% in a high crime area.
Therefore, if you set a policy at such a place that 5% of the people don't
really agree with it, you are going to have "crime" against the policy.
In this case, crime against the policy runs from burying guns in the words
to Tim McVeigh. People like McVeigh are created and energized by what they
perceived to be injustice. As we move the anti-gun policy to limit more and
more non-criminals, paradoxically more anti-society criminals will be
created.
Reaping what you sow so to speak.
