subject: Heading Numbering

FW>"Chapter " in the Text Before box, all of the headings say "Chapter " in
FW>front of the appropriate numbers.
There is a serious flaw in Word6's handling of the styles for
Numbered Headings. I have text and a workaround from a MicroSoft
help desk.
Your problem is *possibly* user-based at this point (grin!).
Let's suppose you create a style "styleA" (with RED font) based
on the style "Normal", and then you create a "styleB" based on
styleA. The new styleB should inherit all the characteristics of
StyleA, including the red font. The red font is "carried" to the
new style.
I suspect that's what's happening with your 'chapters' text,
HOWEVER, given the flaws in Numbered Headings, i'd suggest you
experiment by creating a few styles which are *not* using
numbered headings, to satisfy yourself of the mechanism, before
wading into the Numbered Headings styles. i speak from experience
(VBG!)
I hope this helps.
