ML>Hello!
ML>Just came back from the web page looking to upgrade my 5240am (Optima 288
ML>external) to 33.6.... SHEEEEEESH! At $200 it's an uneconomical
proposition.
ML>I upgraded several of the 5240's to V34 from VFC with no problem, either
free
ML>or at a very inexpensive cost; chip swap-out type operation. What
append
ML>here?
ML>At this price, I'd just as soon go to another manufacturer's SysOp program
and
ML>get a brand new, fully warranted modem for $249; and have my Optima as a
ML>back-up to-boot!
ML>Too bad. ;(
Marc,
We're offering all of our 33.6K upgrades basically at cost. Those that
can be flashed are free. The ones that require just a single chip are
like $10, etc. In the case of the older metal case OPTIMA 288's, there's
no way to upgrade the old units. So instead we're offering a trade-in to
the OPTIMA 33.6 Business Modem at $199. In addition to 33.6K you pick up
a slew of features including flashroms, caller-id, distinctive ring
detect, remote config, voice, etc.
It is actually a good deal, but if you want to see a better deal, see
the 56K upgrade options we now have announced. See the following URL
for all the details:
http://www.hayes.com/56k/upgrade/
Trade up from your Hayes 288 to a Hayes 56k for 89 bucks (plus $15
shipping & handling). Buy a new Hayes OPTIMA or ACCURA 33.6 between
2/197 and 4/15/97 and get an upgrade to 56K for free.
I see you mentioned another manufacturer's sysop program. Well...you can
get a brand new OPTIMA 33.6 external Business modem through our sysop
program for $199.00 You can get one of these and keep your current
OPTIMA as a backup, and still spend less than you would by going to
whatever manufacturer is selling for $249 via their sysop program.
So, for $199 you can get a Hayes 33.6 top of the line Business Modem,
through our sysop program and upgrade it for free to 56K. Sounds like
a good deal to me.
