There is an excellent article on inheritance in the latest Dr. Dobb's 
Journal (#266 June, 1997). It is titled "Design Guidelines for Is-A 
Hierarchies" p. 36.
The author takes a practical look at how to use inheritance correctly 
when dealing with related objects. The article is well written and 
easy to follow.
