Ok. I withdraw my simplistic sentence.

I'll substitute: In my opinion the questioning of medals can easily tend
many to bring all into question if not outright doubt.

Better a mistake to be made on the side of the recipient. 

Better to release a guilty man, that to risk killing an innocent.

So we'll probably continue to disagree, but it won't be personal :-)
