|| I just last week ordered a generic OEM copy of XP Home SP2 full
|| install to put on our new MacBook. I could have ordered Vista Home
|| Premium for about $30 more from the same web supplier. We felt that
|| we would rather deal with XP, a known operating system than learn
|| Vista. XP Home and Pro are very reliable and stable, so why change.

Good strategy! Furthermore, with the poor peripheral hardware compatibility
of Vista, it probably makes more sense to go for Mac/Leopard if someone is
looking for a completely new system and a new OS to learn. And, since the
compatibility of existing Windows programs is excellent on a Mac with
programs such as Parallels, it's probably much smarter to get a Mac.

I'm still pretty happy with XP SP1, and IE6 on one 8yr old pc. It sits
behind a fully stealthed router, so I'm not compelled to bother with SP2.

|| BTW, there is already talk of Vista's replacement which would be
|| released sometime in 2010. That is if anyone believes Microsoft's
|| time table. :)

I'm not concerned. I'm going to have a lot of fun using Ubuntu.
