I can't retrieve a reference I know I once saw about a shipping disaster,
think in the English Channel which might have been a warship. This, as I
recall occurred a year or two before the Titanic sinking and may have cost
more lives. I think I'll inquire about this on the History echo and see if
anybody there has or can reference the info. It isn't very topical for this
echo but maybe somebody here can shed light on this.
