Hi All,
     Home Schooling here in Florida has begun to grow so rapidly it is
really a pleasure to see families finding out that they can take control
of the educational needs of their children and get the support they need
to help them.  Especially when they think that they might not be
able to keep to the commitment.
     It seems that our local *Professional* educators have designed
methods of dealing with children that they think are unable to be taught
due to the childs inability to sit still in a classroom.  They forgot
that children haven't really changed since THEY, the *Professional*
educator were young.  Seems they have lost the patience and time to find
the right method of teaching those children that they possibly were
given when they were in school.  Thus, the development of the special
needs child to take prescribed "DRUGS" to calm them down so they will
sit still and be like the others......Of course, since I don't want my
children to be like all the others but to be themselves, we have found
the need to home school and are as happy as the children are to be doing
it.
     After they took the California achievement test last year and the
results indicated they were both approx. 2 yrs. above the national
average, we realized the payoffs of our efforts.  We know we have a long
way to go but the commitment is still strong and with colleges becoming
more responsive to allowing home schoolers into their institutions, the
benefits are far reaching.
     For those of you who have taken on the responsibility regardless of
ethnic, cultural, social or religious purposes, or have just a plain
old desire to see that your child gets the best education that *YOU*
can give them regardless of where your state ranks in the National
educational listings (Florida being in the 40's) don't forget there is
good support in this conference.  I've only had this conference on my
BBS for about one year and am well pleased.
