You seem optimistic. On average customers don't wish to think these problems,
they just want things to work.

Gel battery makers [eg YUASA] may have it on the battery side. For Plante and
Faure batteries, we were told 2.25 to 2.35 v/ cell. At the lower levels,
here
is considerably less energy stored but the volts are held fairly steady. At
the higher levels, you get more energy stored but there is a rapid fall in
voltage during discharge. Some generating station batteries had "end cells"
that would be smartly switched in after say 30 minutes of emergency
scharge.
These days, most generating stations have AC driven essential auxiliaries [eg
water pumps in nuclear plants] that are driven by intelligent inverters. By
intelligent, I mean AC volts output maintained within 2% even tho the dc
olts
run from plus 2% to minus 30%.
