Bob, I think I would detach a baby and pot it into a separate 3-4"
pot, then keep that pot on a deck, patio, step or somewhere outside
where it gets sun for part of the day. Water it occasionally. Then I'd
stick the rest in the ground where they can get a fair bit of sun.
Water them in, then leave them. Natural rainfall should keep them
going except under extremely dry conditions (which aren't usually a
problem next to the lake.)
At the first warning of frost, hike the potted new plant inside, wash
the pot and plant off, and put in your sunniest window. Don't worry if
it seems too large for its pot; aloes do fine potbound. Leave the
rest to perish. Saves you a lot of work wondering what to do with all
the monsters come fall, and you have the potted one as backup.
