They might not be lying. There could be a DAA fault (ie internal to the
modem) injecting noise into the analog section of the modem. Or there could
be a dried-out smoothing electro in the plugpack allowing the transformer
to squirt 50Hz ripple into the modem's power rails. It *IS* possible that
the customer equipment is faulty.
