I think I can accommodate you on the Russian packet, but I am a mere
mortal dialling into a board. We have never tried a file attach from
my account, so I can't say for certain if I'd send his modem on a
dialling frenzy. I know, chances are it will just FTP you on ZMH,
but I'd rather not PO the Sysop JIC.

There are Russian specific echoes, and I doubt they are *not* on the
backbone. You may look for RUSSIAN_TUTOR (Where I will repost this.)
or something like Z2_RUSSIA. (I know I have that name wrong, but you
get the idea?) What I will do, is forward a post to here, just for
your immediate gratification. If you don't have access, I'll work on
getting the packet I have already created to you. (I can simply
upload it and have the sysop f'attach it, or inform him what I am
 doing.)

For the record, when I installed a different distro, all my "shifting
display" issues went away. The worst that happens now, is the ASCII
welcome screen doesn't display while running under the CLI.

Like most of Linux at this time, this flew *way* over my head.

PS: Their posts were fudging up the letter list! The right side was
blanking out of it's usual colour, and foillowing the message title as
I scrolled up or down. I'll keep an eye on it if I can repeat it.
