I will make you a reference list of wire "guages" as compared
to Squared millimeters and forward it to you, this evening or tomorrow.
But just real quick and dirty....you will need a multi-stranded,well
insulated, copper wire, greater in diameter than the electrical cord
used to plug the unit into the electrical outlet/wall.
Dolby ProLogic Processors. You can purchase units from $99,(US)
145(UK) all the way up to several thousand dollars. There is one unique
processor that has received very good reviews and is extremely inexpensive.
The Chase Passive ProLogic Processor is $99(US) and like the name says is
totally passive in design. It goes between your preamp and main/rear and
center amplifiers. Its operation is very simple and does not offer controls
beyond a read channel delay adjustment. But surprisingly, it works very very
well! We have tested it against many different brands of powered units and
found it keeps pace with almost anything under $500 (US). If you are
interested, I will see what literature I can dig up on it and can send it
either (Internet) E-Mail if you have access or via postal mail (snail mail).
The top rated Dolby Pro Logic processor is a Lexicon. It runs about
$3,000(US) and allows the addition of modules (at $1500 each) for the coming
DVD format, Pro Logic, etc. I have heard one, and really liked it. But it is
too expensive for me.
I have mostly Carver equipment, with Carver, Hafler and Dynaco amps.
I have Legacy speakers for the main stereo, center and subwoofer channels and
a pair of ARs for rear channels at present. My livingroom/main family room
is also my listening area. So I cannot have an opitmum setup with speaker
placement where they would be best(away from walls at least 1 meter, sides
and backs), but have been abale to compensate with wall treatments, etc.
Our news covereage of all the changes in the new republics that once
were part of the Soviet Union isn't as good as it should be. But I am
familiar with your particular country and area. I heard the same comments
about CD quality from Chinese and Bulagrian made CDs from the gentleman
in Moscow. Numerous record/CD companies here in the US and Britain offer
huge free catalogs of available CDs and LPs. Would you be interested in
getting any?
Cheers, John
