Hi Jack,
JS> Can anyone tell me what the current MAX/2 and BINK/2

JS> system to MAX, and be Y2K compatable, also would like
JS> to grab a current, or a good version of ADEPT.
Bink/2 V2.60 is reported to be ok for Y2k, although there are some minor
cosmetic issues. Bink-XE Beta 6 is reported to be fine for Y2K, although I
have heard some say there are some non-Y2K issues. I have no other details of
XE sorry.
Maximus V3.01 Y2K patch is needed, mainly for cosmetic reasons although I
understand that it handles potential problems in the QWK area better. QWK is
the biggest problem with Fidonet, its date formats are onyl 2 digit years so
that means that ALL QWK S/W must make some assumptions. If the reader does not
allow for that, then a QWK reply packet may cause issues... I understand that
Maximus Y2K will try and detect/accomodate those problems whereas the previous
version woudl just accept whatever came in. The Y2K patch goes on top of a
V3.01 release install.
Squish V1.11 Y2k patch is REQUIRED to prevent known problems at Y2K rollover.
It is also installed over original V1.11 release.
All the above can be obtained at www.lanius.com or at the Maximus home page
maintained by Garry Gilmore (links to there available at Lanius).
I have no knowledge of Adept sorry, never found a need to look past a great
Bink/Maximus environment.......;-)
JS> I think I'll try both and see what happens... got about
JS> 3 weeks left, just enough time for a total procrastenator...
The Y2K files for Maximus/Squish are a simple drop in with no other changes
required, 15 minutes maximum, even for a fudge fingers and the re-boot..;-)
Warnings -
1. There is a report of an issue with the INCLUDE directive under Squish,
however I have never used INCLUDE myself so I can't confirm/deny anything in
that area.
2. There also may be issues with the DOS version, Scott used a new compiler
for teh Y2K release and executables now require more memory to run, so anyone
running in a memory constrained environment (eg DV) may have to look at that
closely.
I am running all OS/2 versions of the above on my point and the BBS, so it was
a very painless upgrade.
Dont forget the Y2K versions of Areafix (I use SQAFIX) and Raid (NEF)......;-)
JS> If FIDO is going to survive, I want to be here, if it
JS> gunna die, I want to watch:-)
Feeling a bit blood-thirsty eh???........;-) Of course it will survive. You
just wont know how many finger/toes will be left connected to the body...;-)
JS> Bigger problem is our
JS> net is losing it's NC and it's main hub, and not a one
JS> of us left that seems to know what to do about it. We
JS> still have time though:-)
If you haven't already done it, check out Fidonet over Internet. Its quite
easy now to get that running, and there are plenty of IP based hubs to feed
from now. The main problem is finding someone with a real phone line left who
can act as NC, but with IP at least its easier to join an existing net.
Cheers.........pk.
