This is what Mike had to say to Roland regarding FIDO and political po...
MA> There are several flaws, as I see it, to this perspective.
MA> First, there is no expressed desire to regulate Fido-Net. Our
MA> relatively small, albeit dedicated, following is simply not a
MA> signifigant enough factor in the grand scheme of things to be
MA> considered worthy of attention.
I think you should look into the BBS LAW echo and ask about that. There is
concern now about the FCC getting involved with issuing licenses to sysops.
f
this happens, we (the non-net users) could be in a heap of trouble. I'm not
ganging up on you, my comment has nothing to do with your campaign or the
announcement you made previously. Only the assertion you made about the lack
of regulation we at this moment enjoy. We might not be enjoying it for long.
I've got a text file somewhere that I downloaded from a BBS that I'll have to
read... If anybody wants it, I could attatch it to a message (I think).
MA> No interest, or attention, is present, or even likely, among
MA> well funded political candidates. Ithink it unreasonable to assume
MA> such individuals would even consider what we do here of any import at
MA> all. Fido is made up of privately owned systems, and not subject
MA> to the regulations governing publically held communications,
MA> corporations regulated by the government, or broadcast media.
MA> Each echo in Fido-Net is the posession of the moderator and, as
MA> such, each participant participates at the total discreation of that
MA> moderator. While access is generally open, continuation of that access
MA> is subject to approval by the individual moderator making these echos
MA> more a private than a public affair.
I apparently typed in too early in your comments. I was reacting to the above
there... The stuff about privately owned systems and all.
