One characterization I've read said pressure has been building behind
the dam for a very long time, and the dam finally burst.  I think that's
part of it.  Everybody recognized Dufus at the very least shades the
truth, but this time, he's been shown to very likely have outright lied
and encouraged others to do likewise in a legal proceeding while sitting
in the presidency, and the dam flat couldn't hold any longer.
The age of Monica Lewinski at the time has a bearing too.  That hits
pretty close to home with folks like Cokie Roberts.  As has been said,
interns are somebody's kids, and permissive popular culture or no,
interns are absolutely out of bounds for *any* politician.  No one knows
better than Washingtonites about the attractiveness of power and the
vulnerability to it of somebody Monica's age, despite her being legally
an adult.

Yup.  With this clear indication of lying on both Dufus' part and on the
part of someone close to him, all the previous charges now look a lot
more credible to them, and denials by everybody involved are suspect.
It's worth noting that had the Whitewater investigation not been
ongoing, we likely wouldn't be seeing any of this now.  Same goes for
the Paula Jones suit.
What's really fun about it though is there *still* wouldn't be knowledge
of it had not Uncle Bob called Tripp a liar.  What was that about a
woman scorned?

They sure do, and now there's reports of White House witnesses to
intimacy between Dufus and Monica.

With all the practice she's had, I wonder what speed one of those
