Jerry this is a copy of part of a response to Nancy's message that my wife
clarified Jane's message.
Now my wife would like to respond also:
After reading your response on the ADD echo, I felt that a clarification
was in order. I myself am also a Registered Nurse but prior to that had
been a Psychology major. We have an ADHD child who has been on Ritalin
for a number of years. While working toward my Psychology Degree I did
some extensive research on ADD and the effects of Ritalin.
For a large number of children it is a miracle drug, but like any
medication a tolerance level occurs at some point in time. This is one
reason why many Pediatricians and Neurologists recommend that the child
be given drug holidays on weekends and during the summer months. This
allows the child to be maintained on a minimal to moderate dosage
level. While they are home they aren't confronted with the antics of 20+
other children so therefore would not be experiencing that same level of
external stimuli to exacerbate the ADD symptoms. This should allow a
parent to decrease the number of dosages taken or allow the child to
have a drug holiday.
see ya
