I'm looking for a new Laptop myself, although, I can wait, my old Dell
Inspiron works fine at it is.  I just would like a smaller, compact and
lighter notebook.

That's exactly what I did.  It orginally had a 8 gig HD in it and now has
a 40 gig that's partitioned in half, for a dual boot system.  Have WinXP
Pro and Debian Linux on it.
