Depends upon the modem's original intended country of sale.  The latest
US/Canada code is dated April 29, 1996 (ATI7 will tell you your Courier's
country code), but the Australian code is currently almost a year behind.

Absolutely.  If already 33k6-capable, ATI7 will indicate V34+ in the
Options display (see the example below), but even if it hasn't yet been
flashed with the 33k6bps code, the modem is still easily upgradeable to
33k6 (takes around 60 seconds to do so).  :)
