                             Online Resources
* BBS
The Family Preservation Society
California
408-996-8473
This BBS offers a tremendous resource to all, but particularly those
who reside in California. It offers several California Foster Care,
Child Protective Services, Paternity, and Custody cases drawn from the
most recent court dockets. Several local Message Areas are available,
and the participants seem to be primarily drawn from the professional
and legal community. There is also a considerable amount of general
information available of interest to parents.
The Family Preservation Society is a Non-Profit organization, its
status pending.
The Lawyer's Committee for Civil Rights
Washington, D.C.
202-783-0854, 0855, 0856
Sysop: Richard Seymor
The Lawyer's Committee for Civil Rights, originally established under
President Kennedy, offers a complete range of files on its BBS, most
of which are in Word Perfect format. These include a variety of
Syllabi, Amicus Briefs, as well as decisions and opinions drawn from
the Supreme Court and the Circuit Courts. The files are organized
into several meaningful categories, such as Administrative Exhaustion,
Disparate Impact, Housing Discrimination, work related Civil Rights
violations, Age Discrimination, Monetary Damages, Defenses, Civil
Rights, etc.
While there is not much of direct interest to parents, or to families,
the legal resources available may serve to aid you in furthering your
understanding of the legal process.
Parens patriae BBS
Virginia
540-896-4356
Sysop: Rick Thoma
This new resource offers a selection of several hundred Department of
Health and Human Services documents, regional instructions, policy
interpretation questions, grants administration manuals, the Green
Book of Programs, Memos, and Regulations, as well as related portions
of the Code of Federal Regulations. Also available are over 200
articles relating to Child Abuse and Neglect, over 250 cataloged
Supreme Court Syllabi and Opinions, as well as a number of recent
Custody, Abuse, Neglect and other related cases. Its unique Online
Databases offer well-balanced and simplified online research into the
Health and Human Services regulations, as well as the topics of Child
Abuse and Neglect, False Memory Syndrome, False Allegations, and
considerable information from the VOCAL and FMSF organizations. The
BBS is not affiliated with any of these organizations, and it serves
as home to the Moderator of the Fidonet CHILD_ABUSE_ISSUES conference.
Administration on Children and Families
Department of Health and Human Services
1-800-627-8886
Sysop: Kevin Fine
Originally designed to facilitate communications between the various
agencies, this BBS features a toll free telephone number, which as far
as we have been able to determine is legitimately available to the
public. We were able to log on and download files on the first call,
and saw nothing to indicate that this was a closed system.
While somewhat more difficult to navigate than most, the BBS offers
hundreds of documents relating to Department of Health and Human
Services operations, regulations, Child Abuse and Neglect programs,
etc. Included are Policy Notices, Regional Instructions, Policy
Interpretation Questions, Press Releases, Demonstration Programs, and
more. While some files are restricted, most are available for
download without prior validation.
The Temples of Syrinx
Illinois
217-522-4707
Sysop: David Bloomberg
This BBS offers a tremendous amount of material relating to False
Memory Syndrome, including the False Memory Syndrome Foundation
Newsletters, as well as several files and newsletters from various
skeptics organizations. Also included are articles on Child Abuse,
CPS intervention, etc. The BBS also serves as the home base for the
Moderator of the FidoNet Echomail Conference FMS, and it also offers
access to several other related Echomail conferences.
Camphor Fountain
510-439-0712
California
Sysop: Zaynab Richmond
BBS offers a selection of articles relating to Child Abuse and
Neglect, Child Protective Services intervention, as well as a number
of files of rather an eclectic nature, such as information about
alternative religions. A unique find.
National Congress of Fathers and Children BBS
Arizona
602-631-3926
Sysop: Bob Hirschfeld
Features a number of legal files, Landmark Supreme Court cases, as
well as some articles on Child Protective Services, child custody,
miscellaneous Syllabi, false allegations, and other information of
general interest to parents, with the primary emphasis placed upon
fathers. Bob is also the Moderator of the Fidonet VFALSAC (Victims
of False Accusations) conference. The BBS also offers several
echomail conferences of potential interest to those wrongly accused
of child abuse.
LAW-LINK BBS
Pennsylvania
215-923-8925
Sysop: Sean Robins, Esq.
This BBS offers a good variety of legal files and information, along
with the more common variety of DOS utilities. Of particular interest
to Pennsylvania residents may be the variety of local Court Opinions,
as well as Court Rules. Supreme Court Syllabi are also to be found
here, as well as a collection of up-to-the-minute Third Circuit Court
Opinions. While no particular emphasis is placed upon family law,
this is overall a valuable legal resource, particularly for those in
the jurisdiction of the Third Circuit.
Bluedog BBS
New York
212-594-4425
Sysop: Philip Perlman
Included here primarily for its File Area # 38, which serves as home
to a growing collection of Legal information, including fresh material
drawn from the Second Circuit. The BBS also offers a huge selection
of files, many of which are not to be found elsewhere. Where else can
you find information on "Bioluminescence in the woods" available for
downloading?
