Hi Bob,
BL>Excellent explanation, and much thanks, Sandra. You're detailed
BL>description went into far better detail than the PBS and network TV
BL>channels did. I don't think the television discussions mentioned sheep
BL>offal, so that was a revelation.
It was always connected to sheep. When sheep ended up with scrapie,
the control measures for most of this century were to kill off the
entire flock, anf quarantine stock that may have been in contact.
Then, perhaps as recently as 20 years ago, after intense study of the
situation (prodded by some very angry/fearful pedigreed flock owners),
they announced scrapie was a genetic disease, and that blood samples
would reveal whether certain animals were carriers. And that was the
last word on the subject up until the "mad cow syndrome" burst onto
the scene.
BL>I sometimes wonder that our dogs and cats don't have serious side
BL>effects, what with all the strange things they put in their food. I
BL>noticed lately that they are advertising lamb in dog foods now. In
BL>light of the above, I wonder how is lamb meat, and how much is lamb
BL>"other parts"?
In Canada, or at least, in Ontario, dead stock buyers refuse to take
sheep carcasses with heads attached. They're learning. So I would
think that most dog/cat foods containing lamb would be relatively safe
from Canadian sources, PROVIDED you think the companies are reliable.
And I've myself often wondered if some of the pit bull frenzy is an
early sign of prion disease. Not that I shall ever own a pit bull. :-)
BL>... We have enough youths. How about a fountain of SMART?
I hear you, brother! :-)
...Sandra...
