I recently picked up, for the equivalent of $7.50 US, an interesting
remaindered book that I have never seen mentioned here, "The CA-Clipper
Interface Handbook" by J.P. Mueller and BJ Walsh, McGraw Hill, 1995, 675
pages + 3.5" disk.
The first half of the book is a good review of Clipper commands, functions,
preprocessor, codeblocks, and objects through 5.3. In the second half, it
gets down to it's real purpose - to expound Clipper through the eyes of a
hacker. Topics include C and ASM interfaces, the various x-Base file
structures (and .WKS structure !), the mouse, direct access to the VGA,
accessing the math co-processor directly, and accessing other PC on-board
chips and the CD-ROM.
If you have interests in that direction, the book is worth the remaindered
price just for the tables of hardware addresses and commands and of file
structures.
The sad part of this is that, increasingly, remaindered stock is the only
place that we will be likely to find books on Clipper.
