SC> Hi George, was looking over BANM's web page, not bad, hey, with their
dma
SC> system are the rates any cheaper or do you pay the same as the analog
er
The rates are basically the same. There are one or two special digital
only rate plans, but the bulk of the plans are identical to their
analog counterparts, except for including SMS (Short Message Service)
for text messages. The digital phones are the only ones capable of
receiving text messages.
At the present time, BANM is not pushing their digital service as
aggressively as they might. With only one vendor making CDMA digital
hardware at this time, the phone prices are outrageously high -- $500
with activation. Sprint's digital only phone is almost identical to
BANM's hybrid digital/analog, but Sprint is subsidising it very heavily
to gain some market penetration. All predictions I've heard call for
Motorola and Audiovox to have CDMA hybrid phones available soon, so
prices should drop to a more competitive level with the analog
equipment.
So far the issue has never come up, but I imagine that businesses that
use any of the aggregate billing plans will be able to mix analog and
digital phones on a single account.
The price plan that is we're getting the most interest in is the new
Corporate Value Pack. There's a two line minimum, and you get 75
included minutes per phone line at $29.99 per line. All subsequent
minutes are flat rated at 27 cents, and the first incoming minute is
always free. We're selling lots of medium level airtime users a second
emergency-only phone for a spouse. With a pool of 150 minutes for $60,
and peak usage only 27 cents, it's often the most economical plan. The
aggregate billing is what really makes the difference.
Within the past few weeks, I've sold almost a dozen new Audiovox analog
PCS phones on this new plan. Users are giving their older phones to a
spouse or child so they can use the new phone with incoming caller ID
and voice mail indicator. At $9.95 (with service activation) it's one of
the best hardware deals I've ever had a chance to sell. It even has a 22
hours standby, 5 hour talktime Nickel metal hydride battery.
