Hey there
WC> From a commercial point of view, the lyrics aren't always too
WC> important. With the exception of one or two writers such as Costel
WC> or Difford and Tilbrook, the punter immediately buys on the feel
WC> and sound. They usually take time to learn the words later.
How true.
Remember Harry Nillson? "Brother bought a cocoanut, he bought it for a dime
His sister had another one she paid it for the lime She put the lime in the
cocoanut she drink them both down she put the lime in the cocanut, she drink
em both down she put the lime in the cocanut, she called the doctor woke him
up
she said Doctor, aint there nothing I can take She said doctor, to relieve
this belly ache He said now let me get this straight..."
Etc, etc, etc
A silly song, at best, the lyrics mean absolutely nothing, but it was a hit,
and alot of people remember it to this day. Played it on gigs, myself. People
love it!
Lyrics don't always have to mean a thing to touch people. Look at alot of the
crap out today. Neither does the music for that matter. See previous comment.
I personally prefer it when either or both DO mean something, but nowadays,
it's just not an issue. Just what the lawyers think about profitability...
MY 2 cents (shame you can only hear 3 cents and above, eh?).
