| subject: | Max for Linux? |
AV> Is there a Maximus compiled for Linux? If not, AV> has anyone tried running it under Linux using AV> dosemu? I think unfortunately there won't be Maximus/Linux. Maximus was compiled with Watcom for both OS/2 and DOS versions. AFAIK Watcom doesn't support Linux, yet. Since no-one is interested to port Maximus to GNU C for example, there won't be a Linux version and if someone does with the permission of Dudley, due to GNU's restrictions, maximus' code would have to be freely available. :) To-day the second oldest BBS in Turkey became a free BBS for the first time in its life, due to the lack of BBS users. It runs under Maximus/2 now, and after this, I simply don't know what will happen to it in a year or two. I won't be here to look after it anyway. :( In Ankara, number of running BBSs are dropping all the time, Maximus or not. Most of the survivers are Maximus running boards but they are all desperate and can't compete with Internet. Sysops here are in a black mood, no-one wants its system usage around 20-30 users. Only Die-Hard's are still struggling. I myself gave up and closed my board two years ago. :( It was one of the hard and sad choices I've ever made. I am co-sysoping the biggest BBS in Turkey now but I really starting to wonder if it does worth or not. :((( ...
