RC> Seems parents were merely dropping the coverage they were RC> paying for, in favor of the state freebie. With the high cost of medical insurance, individual policies being exceptionally expensive, what would you expect. Under McCain's plan you could expect the same thing. This is esp true with the large number of poor people in Hawaii. Yep, there are poor people in Hawaii. Esp among native Hawaiians. Almost 10% of the population of Hawaii lives in poverty, which is lower than the national average, and much lower than many southern states, but not the lowest in the country. Afterall, Hawaii depends heavily on tourism, and any area that has tourism as it's mainstay is going to have a lot of low paid jobs. The reality is, more people are losing private sector health insurance even without a state or national alternative. When it reaches the point where the US turns into a medical third world country, we will have to turn to national health care, no matter who doesn't like it. BTW, if there is a private sector solution, let the private sector find it. There is nothing stopping them, and they have at least a couple years before any govt program can become fully effective. They have at least a couple months before one can even be enacted. Let them come up with a plan that the people can believe will work. Nothing stopping them.
