Danny, at 14:59 on Sep 02 1996, you wrote to William Brackenridge... WB> I have a 386 with an ordinary Serial Port. Currently, I have a 2400 WB> modem and I am thinking of buying a faster one. It will probably work, but you can't guarantee DK> reliable transfers. That's not true at all. In fact, I often used to run my old 33k6 Sportster under Qmodem (MS-DOS) on my son's 386DX40 with a 16450 UART, and was seeing transfer rates in the order of 3350cps, with NO errors whatsoever. The bottom line is that if you are careful, it can be done, and quite easily too, even under a decent MTing OS like OS2/2, for example. DK> If you are buying an internal, it won't matter. Internal modems have a com DK> port built in complete with the new high speed uart chips. That's generally true of internals now, but it wasn't always the case. Indeed, I'm currently sitting here looking at a V.32 internal modem which only has a 16450 UART on-board.
