I don't know if it will help or not, but InJoy has the ability to sit
waiting for a PPP request, then dial automatically. You can then
configure it to drop the connection after a fixed time, or after so much
idle time. I have it running this way for the DES challenge. After the
program finishes a set of keys, it connects, reports the results, and
gets the next set, all without human intervention.
I believe situations like yours are addressed in the docs. You may wish
to pick up a copy and see if it will work for you.
