My company has used them to good effect. I don't like doing it, and voted
vigorously against it. I was outvoted.

We wouldn't have continued to use the service if it hadn't been so
successful. If people didn't buy things they found through faxes, no one
would send them. After I was outvoted, I waited to be proved right, that
this form of advertising would create bad feeling and bring no business.
Since it gave significant value for the amount spent (it is not a free form
of adveritising, but it does cost less per customer gained than TV ads) it
has been used again.
My personal preference is still against fax advertising (every morning I come
into my office to find page after page of junk faxes if I forgot to turn the
fax machine off at night) but I'm not going to be able to put a complete stop
to my company using it until it stops bringing in business. All I can do is
make absolutely sure the law is followed, and that people who phone to scream
are treated politely.
