Having had my son go through the "invented spelling" program locally, I can 
say that what was done here was wrong. He never had to make a final draft 
with correct spelling until the Fifth grade (10 years old). Far to 
late--should have been done from the beginning. He does not know when he is 
spelling correctly or not often.
 
Now, I haven't had time to read thourghly what the discussion trend is about 
spelling in your exchange of posts - but I do know when an idea is not right 
or not implemented as originally planned. Most of that I blame on the lack of 
training in our districts and misconceptions that teachers pick up.
