Portability is probably only a matter if you are talking about GUIs. But as
for command line tools - I think the range of possibile systems that hpt is
running on is by far greater than the possible range of system a Java
tosser would run on.

If people simply would start using GNU boundary checking with gcc
(-fbounds-check) while developing, that problem would be gone within weeks
...
