I've heard tales of that happening especially with wireless security
cameras.  They had a report awhile back on a consumer based show where some
expert cruised around with a laptop to demonstrate exactly how secure these
things actually are.  The bottomline was 'buyer beware'.  Go figure.  Now
if it only worked half as well for it's intended homebase they might
actually have something but given that the unwanted audience tends to do a
better job with these things I would have to conclude that it isn't
something I'd want running here.
