G'day Dave

 >AB> yes I agree with you as i upgraded my netcomm m34f here which
 >AB> is on my internet line and my isp has banskia 33.6k modems on
 >AB> his end and my netcomm just won't have a bar of them any higher
 >AB> than 28800 and i need to physically lock the baud rate to 28800
 >AB> to acheive that,

DP> Although only anecdotal, I too have a friend with a Netcomm
DP> Roadster which seems poorly compatible with many BBS.

Not wanting to knock Roadsters but i wouldn't want one if Netcomm was
giving them away. If you check the paragraph from AB above he mentions
that he has a M34F this is a Netcomm Smartmodem which is a more
expensive upmarket range than the Roadster.

DP> Its not the line as my Spirit Viper punches thru with a 28.8
DP> connect every time at his place. Similarly, his modem sucks at
DP> my place. This is despite 2 returns to Netcomm service. The sad
DP> thing is that I advised him to get the Roadster based on
 DP> anecdotal evidence as well.

Just going on what others have said here the Viper seem to be quite a
good modem. BTW What anecdotal evidence is around that would cause you
to recommend someone buy a Roadster, most comment about them is
negative.

DP> You may be suffering from that common technician malady of "user
DP> is always wrong and must be a moron" ... he might be, but don't
 DP> assume it.

I don't assume anyone is a moron and am at a loss as to how you jumped
to the conclusion that i did. My comment above was based on the fact
that he had to force his modem to connect at 28800 otherwise if left
to work it out for itself the modem would choose a lower speed.

     Pete.
