Subject: convention info
Hi Everyone. I just got word last night that we now have at
least a third overflow hotel for our convention, it is the Hampton
Inn located at 226 Carondelette St. it is only 2
blocks from Canal St. It is also connected with Charles Place or
if you prefer the French pronunciation Place St. Charles which
is a combination office and food court complex. I don't think
there is much shopping as such in there, but you are only 2
blocks from Canal St which either has most anything you want or
is accessible to it.
Also, Carondelette becomes Bourbon Street on the other side of
Canal. But just one little catch: right now they are laying
streetcar tracks in the center of Canal and that crossing is one
where construction is going on and the pedestrian crossing is
closed at that intersection as of this writing. So right now,
you can't cross Canal at Carondelette to get to Bourbon.
You either have to walk 2 blocks down Canal to Camp street or one
block to
Berrone which is to the left. I don't know if that crossing will
be reopened at
convention time or not.
To get to Canal from the Hampton, if you go out the Carondelette
entrance you turn right. You will have to cross one small street
which is Common Street, then walk one more block to Canal.
If you turn right on Canal in the local vernacular you will be
heading towards the river and if you turn left you would be going
towards the lake.
It is also not far from the Hyatt. I haven't walked that route,
but you would turn left out the Carondelette door and walk to
Poydras St. which will be the next wide street about 3 blocks up,
cross Poydras and turn right and then I'm not sure how many
blocks it is, but I'm sure the shuttle will be available. Hope
this helps.
Harvey
