Sounds like you have a ghost in the machine.

Two different things. From DOS using Deltree (or even using Windows
Explorer), you would be removing the $uninstallxxxx folders... this would
(presumably) leave behind the orphaned entries in the Add-Remove list--
which is what Tweakui (etc) lets you remove... Tweakui's Add-Remove options
do not remove any actual files, only edit the Registry entries referring to
the files.
