ALT.MOOSE.RIGHTS: Once upon a time in alt.animal.rights there was a bunch of
moose poets, who insisted on writing execrable verse mostly
about mooses. "Why don't you take your moose poems and stick them,"
said everyone else, "on a newsgroup of your own." Thus was founded
alt.moose.tights . The moose poets have dispersed to the far forests
of the world, but their newsgroup still remains on many news-servers.

ALT.SMOKING.MOOSES: Quite simply there was a group of Scandinavian
people who wanted a smokers rights newsgroup. There wasn't, then,
an appropriate hierarchy to put it in, so... "alt.smoking.mooses."
Whether this newsgroup is now about mooses that smoke, or the
smoking of mooses, is entirely up to its readership I suppose.

MOOSECHAT from FIDONET. We also seem to have acquired some new
Canadian mooses who have lost their own place on FidoNet.

In article, Stephen Moosehart writes:
>Since the FidoNet node which "The Three Mooseketeers" frequents is
>closing down, with this message I am starting to "gate" the MooseChat
>message area to the alt.moose.rights UseNet newsgroup.

This is the description of their "MooseChat" echo.

 MOOSECHAT

Moose and Hoser "Canadian Humor" Chat

MooseChat is an echo for anyone who wants to attempt witty,
humorous, or just plain silly messages. Many distinguished
moose, Hosers from the Great White North, and even famous
Performance Artists like Saddam Hussein and George Bush
have all frequented MooseChat at one time or another. A
moose- like angle, alias, or shtick is appreciated but not
necessary. Moose sometimes stray into serious topics and
political satire is often seen, but those attempting serious
discussion may need to survive receiving silly replies.
The MooseChat "echo theme" is to disseminate knowledge about
the noble moose, to discuss attributes of moose we have
known and admired, and to enter messages which are a bit
more silly or offbeat than one finds in most other echoes.
