It's simply incredible what John Jaros said to Gaylen Hintz
JJ> Well, BWave IS popular. After doing thesis level investigation
JJ> into QWK readers, I ended up with BWave too, but I stayed with
JJ> 2.12 because of the smaller size. I'd use Silver Express if a
Well, I'm using version 2.20 for DOS and I happen to like some of
the changes, I probably could use the 386 vehicle but heck, this one
does everything I want it to and since it's already registered....
:)
JJ> local BBS used the SX door. I read the Fido OLR echo every so
JJ> often. The market is particularly competitive these days.
Yep, there are a lot of them out there all right, there are also a
lot of QWK doors available but unfortunately, most of them are BBS
specific. :(
JJ> The reg for the Reader is promotionaly priced at $10 through
JJ> the end of the year. (...just found that out)
Yep, and that really is a good deal!
JJ> Well, that's a bummer. That means that there would be less of
JJ> a chance talking him into a MacroNET, or {COMMO}wide
Yep, I'm sure of that... BTW, with my machine anyway, the internal
zmodem transfer in the SX door is very slow.. only averages somewhat
under 900 cps at 14.4k baud so I'm using the external protocols
option to call in dsz which works considerably better.. Just thought
you might like to know. :)
JJ> make us a door . I'm sure the Silver Express Reader and
JJ> {COMMO} combination is superior to Gold Express. Hmm...
Now that I can't help you with but coming from where it is, I'm
sure it's also a quality product.
JJ> ; I wonder if we could get him to leave us some open
JJ> hooks for for stuff (like passing {COMMO} variables). That
 JJ> would be dynamic.
Ummm, maybe, I'll have to take a wait and see attitude to see how
receptive he is.. BTW, I'm not putting the other version on line
here as of yet ( the hudson based one ), I want to play around with
it for awhile to see if I can get it to directly read in the commo
message bases. Besides that, I would have to either start the
message bases completely over for the SX door to convert them to
hudson format..and if and when I do I want to make sure my users
wait a couple days before downloading mail from that door. I hope
it works because the hudson mail format is supposedly much quicker
to pack and gather messages than is the fido MSG format.
 JJ> Jeff's gonna hate this. :)
yep! But you know he's been surprisingly quiet on this thread..
maybe he just doesn't want let out his frustrations on us explorers.

Cheers and have a great day! From the Curmudgeon of MacroNet!
