.. and do you mean 'into  tech' in the sense that if presented with
something like a plastic airplane or starwars assembly kit + glue and
paint, they (a) figure out how to  assemble and paint it it and then do
it or (b) they just luuve tech but won't read manuals and throw Teddy out
of the pram when some button doesn't do what they think it should do.

I've met kids of all ages (some in their 30s and older) and seen both
reactions to technical toys and devices. If they do (a) then get them a
Pi, but if (b) is their usual reaction, give them a supersoaker or a
skateboard instead.
