| subject: | Ubuntu = Crapware |
Well, you can remove me from the Ubuntu believers camp now. The day before I really need the damn laptop for something, Ubuntu tells me it has updates. So, I look them over & let them roll. Well, one of the updates was a new kernel, which it said it needed for security purposes. Now the damn thing won't boot... not with new kernel, not in "recovery mode, not with old kernel. "Kernel panic." Yeah, it ain't the only one. So basically it did a real fine job of autoconfig-ing itself when installed, but once it came time to update the kernel, it "Windowed" me. I know some wise ass is going to suggest that I compiled it wrong, but I didn't do anything except let it install a "security update." It did it all itself, and now won't even boot so that I can try to fix it. What's worse is that the damn thing does not give you a proper root account, or even properly-working su capabilities (and the "destuctions" on their www site to do either are not correct), so there is not much that can be done but a full re-install, just like damn windows.
