Hello Bob! 22 Nov 08 03:21, you wrote to me: BK> IOW, *SOME* DVDs can be erased. Saying DVDs can't be erased BK> means no DVD can be erased. Logic 101. You have to understand the American Vocabulary, which evidentily you do not.. When someone says they are taking a aspirin, are they really taking aspirin or another OTC pain pill? (Tylenol or Advil) When one says they are going to make a Xerox copy of their phone bill, are they really using a Xerox brand copy machine? RC>> -RW's arent the first thing that comes to mind when one RC>> refers to DVD's.. RC>> To many people, A DVD is something that one buys or rents a RC>> movie on. BK> Irrelevant to the discussion. Very relevant. RC>> In this context, Mimi was correct.. BK> In many contexts she may be correct, but we were talking about BK> recording TV programs. In that context she was incorrect. Just BK> plain wrong. Not many people bother to use DVD+/-RW's to record movies with especially with the standalone recorders. [A] Given the fact that RW disks have a finite number of times that they can be rewritten and that they all are not guaranteed to make it as far as the max number they are said to be capable of being rewritten to, it would be a pity to have that failure happen during a recording session. [B] Everyone doesnt own a standalone recorder that is RW capable. [C] Regular DVD+/-R disks can be had for as little as 9.5 to 19.5 cents a disk when on sale and bought in the 100 pack spindle. These disks also enjoy a wider compatibility with these players along with the reliability of knowing that a read/write limit is not being approached. [D] RW disks cost more. Mimi was correct in tune with the way the public understands and uses DVD's. RC>> She is only incorrect if she used the word all. BK> No, she is incorrect because she did not use the word "some". In BK> the context of recording TV programs to DVD she was wrong. And BK> that was the context. She is correct, you are incorrect. We have lots of bootleggers whom purchase media from us, and it isnt RW. (Many are regular customers whom told me that they make bootleg copies, they often by 2 or 3 100pack spindles of R media) A very few people use RW like you do and it is unfair for you to assume that Mimi would know that you do, but she is still correct, == Ross Fidonet Feeds Or Fidonet In Your Newsreader: http://www.easternstar.info E-mail: ross(at)cassell(dot)us | Blogs/Other Places: http://links.cassell.us ...
