could this be a heat problem like some inexpensive home routers/switches see
from time to time? a heat problem in which they lose packets or otherwise stop
processing traffic properly?

you say this happens with only one unit... perhaps apply some more cooling to
it and see if it helps...

or maybe swap this unit with one of the others that works and see if the
problem follows the unit...
