Hi Martin!
SP>> If you have a reasonable setup, like no worn out strings, not the

SP>> hand.
MR> I don't know about it being quite 75%, but essentially I agree. And
MR> there doesn't seem to be enough emphasis on how fingering (or left hand)
MR> technique contributes to good tone.
I think, it's the hands... two days ago a guy, who is working as a studio
musician brought me a guitar (that I will maybe buy) and played on it and it
did sound way different when I played it. ANd Im not talking about the weird
stuff like kinda whammy simulation (he bended the strings with his right hand
behind where he freted them with his left hand). On the other hand, he said,
that my sound setup was awsome (he`s using the same sound processor) and that
he wasn`t able to configure it as well as I do. I think, the hand are what
transfers the soul into the strings :)
RL>>> I have a feeling SRV could have taken my Squier Strat and plugged it
RL>>> into a Squier-15 through a MetalZone pedal and made it sound like God.
MR>> Yeah, I know. Scary, isn't it?
SP>> My Squire sounds great. It's my cheapest, but nearly my fav. Guitar.
SP>> It can sound really warm for jazz comping and hot and distorted for
SP>> fusion lead. None of my jazz guitars can do that.
MR> I don't doubt it. A fellow I used to play with had a Squier which
MR> he'd bought at a time when he couldn't afford a better instrument. Some
MR> years later, his situation had changed and yet he was still playing it a
MR> lot because he liked the feel and the sound.
I had really good luck to get such a good Squire (Japanese) and I have also
modified it to my taste. The only thing that sucks is the 5-way switch. It`s
definately of a low quality and I think, it`ll be the next project to replace
it.
Take care __
